She was the 3rd highest-paid actress in the Hindi film industry from 1963 to 1969 and the 4th highest-paid actress from 1971 until 1976.Saira made her Bollywood debut by starring opposite Shammi Kapoor in the superhit film, Junglee (1961). She certainly made an impressive debut for she received her first ‘Best Actress’ nomination at the Filmfare Awards in 1962. Furthermore, she reunited with her first co-star only once again in Manmohan Desai’s Bluff Master (1963).She initially dreamt of becoming a singer and even took lessons from her classically trained grandmother.Like Saira, her mother was also a leading Bollywood actress of her time, having starred as the Empress Nur Jahan in Pukar (1939). Her ethereal beauty earned her the title of ‘Pari-Chehra’ (or fairy face).Later in her career, she expressed regret over not getting the opportunity to star opposite Bollywood’s first superstar, Rajesh Khanna.
